The treatment of various cancers has evolved over the years with significant improvements in the survival and quality of life after the diagnosis of cancer. Multidisciplinary management involving surgical, medical, radiation therapy, counselling and rehabilitation has made a huge diference.
The Department of Surgical Oncology focuses on surgical interventions for the diagnosis, staging, treatment and palliation of cancer patients. After appropriate evaluation and diagnosis, multidisciplinary tumour board discussion is done and decision regarding the management of the patient is taken. Sometimes Neoadjuvant treatment(Chemotherapy/radiotherapy) maybe required prior to surgery and at times after completion of surgery to prevent recurrences. In our Surgical Oncology division, after inform and getting consent from the patient and attenders, all complex and advanced procedures are done to offer surgical clearance of the tumour. Modular theatres and well trained staff are available to assist procedures of any magnitude. Expert anesthesiologists and ICU teams provide adequate intraop and postoperative support for effective recovery of the patient.
